Experiential Design for The House of AïA
Temples and Portals to the Sun and Stars
Inspired by sacred geometry, the sun, and the north star, we created outdoor spaces for events and ceremonies that fit within the lexicon of the property and local Mayan heritage.
Key Design Take-Aways
The triangular altar’s long arm points true north, creating a sundial effect on the ground.
The eastern-facing boulder lies exactly between the altar and the sunrise on the winter solstice.
The boulders perfectly form a giant hexagon when viewed from above.
La Puerta de AïA
We designed a portal to stand at the water’s edge when approaching the property from the shore to build anticipation before the resort’s official opening. It served as an Instagramable backdrop for visitors walking along the beach from neighboring, hotel properties.
